PROJECT NUMBER:  15-2

PROJECT TITLE: Using the New SHRP2 Naturalistic Driving Study Safety Databases to Examine Safety Concerns for Older Drivers

PRINCIPAL INVESTIGATOR(S) & UNIVERSITY(S): Co-PI’s: Michael Knodler and Song Gao, University of Massachusetts Amherst

The New England Transportation Consortium (NETC) is hosting a webinar on Wednesday, March 4 from 11:00 to 11:30 a.m. ET to share findings from the NETC project Using the New SHRP2 Naturalistic Driving Study Safety Databases to Examine Safety Concerns for Older Drivers. This project studied intersection safety for drivers 65 and older using data from the naturalistic driving study (NDS) funded through SHRP2 (the second Strategic Highway Research Program).

Webinar attendees will learn how researchers used the SHRP2 NDS data and dashboard camera video to investigate the key factors contributing to crashes at signalized intersections, especially for drivers age 65 and over making a left turn. Principal investigator Michael Knodler and researcher Tracy Zafian of the UMass Transportation Center will discuss the project’s findings, and the webinar will conclude with a short Q&A.

Webinar presenters:
  • Tracy Zafian, UMass Transportation Center (researcher)
  • Michael Knodler, UMass Transportation Center (principal investigator)

To attend the webinar, please complete the registration form. A GoToMeeting link and conference line information will be sent to registered attendees a week prior to the webinar.
